Why Weigh?
The average cost of packaging for any given item is 9% of its value.
That’s $1 for every $11 spent - think about how much that adds up?! Let’s do some math.
On your weekly grocery shop you might buy 👇🏽
dish soap: $5
laundry soap: $15
shampoo & conditioner: $15
coconut oil: $12
toothpaste: $5
That’s $52 x 9% = $4.68 x 52 weeks equals… $243.36 on packaging in a year! I could think of so many other things to spend $243 on!
Coming from the packaging world means I’ve seen first hand what resources go into making a product look appealing to it's audience. It’s not only the cost of the raw product that goes into packaging, but also the time and energy from the people handling the orders and manufacturing the packaging! Imagine if all those people (like me!) were out of a job and found other ways to make an income that would better this world instead of adding to our plastic waste!? I know that’s a big dream but it’s totally possible! And it starts with us - the consumers - voting with our wallets and choosing to refuse items based on their packaging or the toxic ingredients that lie within.
It’s Sunday and lots of shopping and prepping for the week is about to begin… now is your chance to switch up that old way of convenience-based thinking and find new ways to live packaging free!
